Joint project/ artist team C.Dingens/M.Kuhn
Commission from the Lier municipality for the elementary school with 1-7 classes to develop an artistic project that also integrates and motivates the students. The reason for the commission is the renovation of the school building and the 100th anniversary of the school. This project includes an artistic implementation in the interior as well as the exterior of the school.
"Timecell
“Timecell”... a stone stays - we go. The art project "Timecell" of the Egge School in Lier is taking the school's 100th anniversary as an opportunity to make past and future times visible and to address them. As a terminal moraine area, the idea of working with stone and examining the material to determine its origins was close. So a "moraine stone", the Norwegian national stone “Larvikite”, was split in half - and approached the school's students with the questions: What kind of contemporary witness was the stone? What has happened in the last 100 years? What is in a stone? Which symbols reflect the school's past 100 years? What has been immortalized in the stone? In group work, the students found meaningful symbols on topics such as history, science, politics or sociology etc. and we as artists engraved the symbols on the stone. A new wing of the school has been built and points to the past - what will happen? What will we find in 1000 years? What history will still be written? How can history be manipulated - what can we change today, what will be relevant tomorrow? On this topic of an artistic project in the school building, a Larvikite plate has been integrated into the floor of the entrance hall. As an imaginary, not yet opened time cell for "2023 - 3023".
The students should be confronted with the issues of time in everyday life and during their education and bring questions into the classroom. This project can also be expanded for the teachers and can accompany the lessons. The signs and symbols are also visible on the glass surfaces of the corridors and the doors - as signposts and as a security system - but above all as a completion of the art project "Timecell" on many tangible levels.
